Diab is proud to announce its contribution to the Uljanik JSC’s SIEM Cicero project that won this year’s JEC Innovation Award. SIEM Cicero is a 7000-car car carrier vessel that features GRP composite structures for three of its cargo decks. The key benefits include reduced fuel consumption, increased payload and reduced production lead time.

Established in 1998, the prestigious JEC Innovation Program has so far involved 1,800 companies worldwide. 177 companies and 433 partners have been rewarded for the excellence of their composite innovations. The goals of the program are to identify, promote, and reward the most innovative composite solutions worldwide. The idea is to encourage companies that are involved in composite innovation along with their partners, and also enhance their public exposure, while contributing to the advancement of the composite industry.

The selection criteria for the JEC Innovation Awards include Impact on Mankind and the ratio “Cost of the solution/acceptable price for the targeted audience”, as well as the innovative character and environmental impact of the project. The full value chain, partnerships and collective intelligence are also taken into account. “SIEM Cicero is the first extensive application of sandwich composite in the shipping industry, where each deck uses 770 m2 of Divinycell H100 and 2570 m2 of Divinycell H80. With the use of innovative materials and technologies, we are able to reduce the environmental impact while cutting cost,” says Roger Jansson, Group Product & Marketing Manager at Diab.
