Todomar 52 – Colombia’s First Fully Infused Production Yacht

With a legacy of hand-laminated yachts up to 43 feet, Todomar Yachts, based in Cartagena, Colombia, set out to push its limits. The goal was to develop and build a 52-foot performance sport yacht using full resin infusion, marking a first not just for Todomar, but also for Colombia's production yacht industry.

The project brought together a global team of experts: Boksa Marine Design, Pro-Set Epoxy, and Diab. The ambition was clear—to create the largest fully infused production yacht in South America, delivering both exceptional performance and high-quality craftsmanship.

First-time infusion, proven partnership

For Todomar, the transition to infusion represented a significant shift in both process and mindset. Traditionally focused on hand lay-up techniques, the team had never used resin infusion or structural foam cores. Diab played a key role in this evolution, providing not only materials but technical guidance throughout the entire process.

The hull design featured a Divinycell H130 core in the bottom, combined with H80 in the hull sides. Diab’s material specialists recommended a combination of GPC1 and GS30 finishes to ensure optimal resin flow and laminate bonding. This was the first time Todomar used structural foam in a hull bottom, making core selection and handling especially critical.

Full support from planning to infusion

Composite Consulting Group (CCG), a part of Diab Engineering Services, was engaged as the project manager for the infusion process, providing both off-site analysis and on-site training. They started by reviewing laminate schedules and optimizing them for infusibility. Resin flow simulations and permeability testing were conducted in advance to support the design of the manifold and placement of the lines. Based on virtual modeling, CCG provided detailed schematics that were used to lay out the entire infusion setup within the hull.

Diab and CCG then traveled to Cartagena for in-person training and support. The local team at Todomar was eager to learn, beginning with classroom sessions and progressing to hands-on work. Together, they dry-loaded the hull, installed the Divinycell core, applied inner laminate layers, and built the vacuum bag system. Every step was designed to minimize risk and ensure repeatability.

After careful preparation, including vacuum drop testing and line installation, the resin was mixed and infused. Over 870 liters of epoxy flowed through the system in a controlled 80-minute process—the result: a clean, consistent hull with excellent fiber wet-out and minimal voids.

Local kit cutting, global expertise

Although Diab offers advanced kitting solutions, Todomar had recently installed its own CNC equipment and was keen to develop in-house capabilities. Diab supported this by delivering material guidance and lamination strategies tailored to the project’s needs. With training from the global team, Todomar was able to produce its own precision-cut core kits, saving time and improving fit.

This ability to combine local ownership with global expertise was a key success factor, allowing Todomar to scale up quickly while maintaining control over production.

Launching a new chapter for Colombian boatbuilding

The 52-foot infused hull represents more than just a new product for Todomar. It’s a demonstration of what’s possible when ambition meets collaboration. As Colombia’s first fully infused production yacht, it sets a benchmark for local innovation and opens the door to new opportunities, both for Todomar and for the region’s marine industry.

With further builds already in the planning stages, including larger vessels, Todomar is now well-positioned for growth in high-performance yacht construction. And with Divinycell at the core, they’re building not just boats, but a stronger, more sustainable future for Colombian shipbuilding.
